Kaddey Golf Zone Balls: the Review

After the success of their 2-wheel cart; the Switch, Kaddey Golf launches into accessories with bags but also a ball; The Zone. Without any experience in making balls, the Dutch brand takes the plunge hoping to convince its customers and others who have loved the Switch golf cart so much. Review and durability test for its brand new balls in an ultra-competitive market. Will she be able to rise to the occasion?

First impressions of the Kaddey Zone ball.

When opening the different packs, I see the attention to detail and the opening experience. There are similarities to opening the cart.

At first glance, the ball only has a simple logo. No names or numbers, or even an alignment line. Very simplistic. Surely a bit too much. Making this discovery on the course during the photo shoot just before playing a course, I start marking a ball with the black plastic clip provided. The pen is greasy and runny and given the ink residue it leaves on my fingers, I tell myself that I should have let it dry for several minutes. My 7 iron will experience the same a few minutes later. The mark I drew to leave a line on the face of the club. Moral of the story, the marking is to be done at home, the day before a game, story that we do not put it everywhere.

Aesthetically speaking

Cardboard packaging is a really good idea. It’s a change from those half-plasticized boxes that other manufacturers offer us. They are so processed that it is hard to tell if it is plastic or paper. It is clear that this initiative is struggling to break through. Surely corroborated by marketing studies which show that golfers perceive a higher value than complex and elaborate packaging. But at least we know in which bin we will have to throw the cardboard packaging of Kaddey Golf.

3 different packaging… or only 2

And the biggest box?

Between the time I opened the first boxes and the time I wrote the article, this format disappeared from the site. Really a shame because it was the most attractive package. Sealed with an orange ribbon, there is (almost) under each ball a written motivation. A second unboxing effect that made sense and was a perfect match for the trolley experience.

Brand new: the ball net

It will therefore be necessary to turn to the ball bag on which we will find an outside pocket containing the marking tool, the style and the pitch note.

I didn’t have the chance to have it in hand, but I’m disappointed not to find the cardboard packaging which really gave meaning and continuity with the whole golf cart experience. When I met the founders, they told me they wanted to avoid additional plastic in their cart packaging.

On the other hand, we can think of this ball net as “refillable” and therefore reusable. What if Kaddey provided the balls in bulk when you order or via a subscription?

Durability test

Durability test
After 10 exits from the bunker, the ball bears slightly deep marks.

A simple test that anyone can perform to get an idea of the resistance of the ball’s envelope is to make 10 bunker shot with the same ball and see the result.

By applying the same process for all the balls I test, I obtain a constant result which is comparable on each ball model. The friction of this test I would say similar to 3 holes on a course. Besides, after 3 holes on a course played in summer in dry weather, I found the same degradation.

The Kaddey Golf Zone with very little marked or even almost smooth cells, does not support the load very well. Marks appear very quickly. Less worse than other softer balls, on which the cover deteriorates very quickly.

Buy it, consider it, or avoid it?

The Zone ball from Kaddey Golf featured unique packaging to provide the golfer with a real cart like experience. Now with just the small (trial) box and the ball bag, the offer seems less attractive. Regarding the qualities presented for the ball only, it is clear that this product is intended for fans of the brand. The others and with a budget of 2.36€/ball, can fall back on the Srixon Feel or the Wilson Duo Soft. But on the other hand, the latter will have better characteristics to compensate for the absence of a marking kit.

Verdict

Overview - 7
Feeling - 5
Durability - 7.4
Price - 3

5.6

The Zone ball is made for lovers of the brand. Like those who want everything from the same brand. For others, there are better alternatives on the market, whether in terms of quality or price.
